LISTEN UP By Ken Barnes
Jennifer Lopez, Brave: * * Insubstantial pop
Lopez performs songs intended to compete with the Beyoncés and Shakiras, but her thin, characterless voice, the most ephemeral in pop, slots her in with younger, less polished singers such as Hilary Duff and other Disney-spawned teen-popsters. Tracks such as The Way It Is and Be Mine could easily be Cheetah Girls tracks, and that's a bit of a disconnect for a woman not far from 40. A few of the frothier tracks are diverting and suit her voice, but too many rote pop/R&B ditties make for cloying ear candy. - Ken Barnes

Ouch at the Disney comparison. This was from USA Today right?
