'Enemies,' Ranch' lead Capitol slate
Sales co. heads to AFM
By ADAM DAWTREY
LONDON - Robert Redford's "Against All Enemies," starring Bruce Willis, and Taylor Hackford's "Love Ranch," starring Helen Mirren,
topline the slate of productions that Capitol Films is bringing to the American Film Market, which starts next week in Santa Monica.
Also new to Capitol's sales roster are Todd Robinson's "The Last Full Measure," starring John Cusack, Clark Johnson's "Chinese
Wall," Dominic Savage's "Mood Indigo" and 3D wildlife pic "Distant Thunder" by Mark Deeble and Victoria Stone.
Total production budget for the slate, all being lined up to shoot pre-strike, is described as "in excess of $300 million."
"This is not only the strongest slate Capitol has taken to a market, but one of the most impressive lineups ever offered by an independent sales
company," claimed Capitol's co-managing directors Nick Hill and Peter Naish in a statement. "It reflects the ambition of our company as we
continue to grow in the future."
"Against All Enemies" is based on Richard Clarke's memoir about his role as counter-terrorism advisor to three U.S. presidents, in which he
alleges that the Bush administration overlooked the threat from Al-Qaeda in months leading up to the 9/11 attacks.
Project was originally in development at Columbia, but the studio put it into turnaround because of nervousness about its political themes. Shooting is
expected to start next spring in Connecticut.
"Love Ranch" stars Mirren alongside Joe Pesci, as the couple who opened Nevada's first legal brothel. Shooting is set for late January in
Albuquerque.
"The Last Full Measure" is the story of an Air Force officer investigating whether a dead war hero should get the Medal of Honor, 30 years after he
died in the Vietnam War.
"Mood Indigo" is a WWII love story scripted by Emily Watson and Jack Waters, about a heartbroken young woman who falls in love with a young pilot.
"Chinese Wall" is a thriller about a young lawyer tackling CIA corruption, at the risk of his own life.
Capitol will screen the first footage from Tony Kaye's "Black Water Transit" at AFM, and new footage from John Maybury's "The Edge of
Love," starring Keira Knightley.
The company is also in pre-production on "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits," directed by Don Roos and starring Jennifer Lopez;
"The Boys Are Back in Town," directed by Scott Hicks and starring Clive Owen; and "Mary Queen of Scots," starring Scarlett Johansson for
director John Curran. Oscar-winning writer Ronald Harwood has just completed a new draft of the "Mary Queen of Scots" script.
All of those movies sound great, I love Indie films, and if they're backing up Jen for LAOIP than this movie should be fantastic, I only fear that Jen will
have another great movie suffer the same as Bordertown.
I'm deciding whether or not to read the book. I read the AUL book and liked it, but I hate it when I watch a movie and they take dialogue straight from the
book, lol. Then, it's like, "What's the point?". Thinking back, I just talked myself out of it. Maybe I'll read another one of her
books. I've been looking for a good book.

Heather, read The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. Its about trends, fads, etc. in business/economics/culture and their tipping point to extreme
popularity...you'd like it as a business student I think.
I am really excited for this movie too...for some reason I picture it almost shot like Unfaithful with Diane Lane, if that makes any sense.

Does anyone kow if they have cast for the stepson yet? I am an actor and i would love to be i a movie with Jen.
I had a vision a long time ago about Me in a movie with Jennifer but in the scene I am fighting with her in my bedroom, its a dark setting and I push her
against the wall.... I didnt know about this movie until now, and it fits my vision quite well :-D *hopes it comes true*
I read that starting in July 2008 they may start a Huge strick, movie writers, directors... if this happen they may not be able to shoot the movie this summer,
other production will be shoot earlier because of that.
If the strick is Official, they will probably want to shoot the movie before July if they can.

CrazyFOJLO your posts always make me laugh they are so
crazy and random!
nmou81: yeah I have read about the strike Jen might be able to get it finished before July 2008.
I think Jen's character is interesting in this film/book as she isn't necessarily a really like-able main character.
Hopefully if they cast a really great Kid in the stepson role it will help the movie.
movie critics always love great child actors and I think the role of the stepson in this movie will be quite challenging as he is portrayed as quite
intelligent and articulate for such a young child!
There is a good mix in this movie of drama and comedy, which has been mentioned in previous posts.
